Lightbulb

On a different note, the German word for "lightbulb" is Glühbirne.

This literally translates to "glow pear."

Ah, the ever-practical German language. But it's too bad they probably didn't expect the arrival of the twisty, energy-efficient fluorescent bulb later on. Admittedly, I would hesitate to eat such a pear.
