The average core temperature of the human body is 37.0° Celcius , or 98.6° Fahrenheit.
When I was very young, I once asked my mother (whom I frequently asked about medical questions, because both of my parents have medical degrees, but my mother studied harder and remembers more) why, if our body temperatures were 98°F, would we still flinch at things of the same temperature. Her answer was that on the surface, it's actually still quite cool, especially in the extremities.
But my favorite part of that memory is when she went on to add that in surgery, this is especially noticeable because when you first cut someone open and stick your hand into their body, you will definitely realize just how extremely hot it is to the touch.
Um.... I just thought that was so, so cool. No pun intended.
