I find myself having many dreams involving very large bodies of water. Frequently, it's sudden though calm floods that fill up the places where I "live" in my dreams. Or there are simply large bodies of water present, like a lake. (Small example from blog post "Nightmare - Extermination".) Some are alright, but others are a bit more unnerving, such as waking up a few weeks ago in the middle of trying to fend off a full grown Rottweiler that someone had let loose on me in the water and caught up because it could swim faster than me, the stupid thing. (Since when did doggy paddle trump a decent freestyle stroke?) Anybody feel like divining what this means :P ? I might add that in reality, I have a fear of swimming in natural bodies of water.
Last night I had a dream involving a lot of water too, but I was surfing on this neat half-mechanical instrument of some sort in a partially open-air, gargantuan tropical rock alcove beneath a cliff. So it was neat!
PS -- Oh, wow. By chance, I just now happened to find a very fitting set of pictures. Some of my water dreams are not always so tropical, but otherwise look just like this...

Many times I have had dreams where I was just to slow to escape what was putting me in danger. Most times it involves me attempting to run from something or getting into a fight and punching incredibly slowly for some reason. I've mentioned it to others and they have reported similar occurrences from what they could remember. I don't know exactly what it means, or what your dreams involving large bodies of water mean, but I definitely know the feeling in your dream of being incredibly slow for no reason. Doggy paddling isn't exactly an Olympic-speed sport.
When I was a kid I used to dream of large bodies of water, but that was because I hadn't trained myself to wake up in the night after drinking a lot of it... and, well... It wasn't abnormal to wake up in the middle of the night IN a large body of water... *ahem* Too much information, I'm quite sure :) But that's what I was reminded of by the post.
Take care. -Cody
