Songs Without Words In Blue

Those who might have been around me enough might know how much expression and communication without words appeals to me hugely, even as much as I love spoken languages.

I saw this United Airlines commercial, "Heart," while watching the Olympics this morning. I was folding some pieces of origami during commercial breaks to pass the time, and I stopped in mid-fold when this came on.

United made some other equally delightful animated commercial pieces that I came over after some searching around Google Video, including "Lightbulb," "The Meeting", and "Dragon", the latter two of which can be found Here. Also at this page is "The Making of 'Dragon'," which is equally well worth seeing.

Maybe "Heart" also appealed to me because a few weeks ago, I got some form of fly-by inspiration for, what is not so elegantly called, a comic strip. The idea in its entirety was fairly short anyway. And I never finished it. Because most days, I've got about as much visual artistry skill as an animal with hooves for hands, except on occasion, and sadly enough, I burned up much of it this time before it could outlast the completion of the original concept. Nevertheless, it and "Heart" were based on very similar premises. Only, my series of drawings had a considerably less uplifting more tragic ending. Maybe one day it will get far enough along to show those of you outside of my head whatever it was.

these are yours? I like the frame with the clocktower. They look nice. It's a shame you didn't finish...the drawing style is good.

I think you draw a lot better than you think you do. Though I've rarely seen what you draw (must be because you burn it :p)
I used to throw away drawings I didn't like. I eventually stopped that...got mad at myself after I threw away one I later decided I liked...

Thanks :) . Yes, they're mine, and I also think it's a shame that I haven't been able to finish them yet. The storyboard is laid out pretty clear in my head, even frame for frame at some parts. But really, drawing is like anything else that a human being can practice (which is a hell of a lot). I know if I could take some time to spend on it, I could get better and more confident. So anyway, here's to hoping that sometime, my drawing hand will be sure enough to keep going further when these things show up in my head :) .

I honestly think that if I was in any sort of mood even slightly less than the good/fine/well mood that I was in when I first saw "Heart," I would have just lost it. "Dragon" almost made me teary-eyed, too, and its "making of" video is, to me, just as touching.
