Today, I was eating dinner with my mother, the last "home-cooked" meal I'll have in a while again until I return to the States. As I was smacking through something delectable, I said,
"You know, Mom. (*munch munch*). I have just been thinking. In evolutionary or scientific terms, humans and other animals alike have developed taste buds through natural development. (*munch munch*). Because the scientific purpose of taste buds is so that the animal can distinguish bad tastes, which are usually labels of bad or harmful food, which would harm the animal.
(*munch munch*)
BUT. Humans have really turned this completely around. Where we used to adapt to what was already there, what was natural, we've now taken counter control and adapted IT to OUR conditions. With cooking and all that. It's totally backwards now! We control the flavors. Isn't that weird/strange/interesting/fascinating??"
My mother picked up some rice with her chopsticks, chewed and said:
"Oh, Elayn... You would be thinking about things like this. I'll bet most people your age do not think this much about things like this. But yes, that's an interesting point."
