Your Awesome Chucks

24 January. School had just started back from Winter Break not too long ago. A few of us were hanging out in the hall on a Sunday evening when we brought back up an idea that we had some time earlier: Bleach-paint a pair of Converses. The owner of the chucks had specifically bought a pair on sale a few weeks ago for the sole purpose of putting them under the bleach brush. He has multiple pairs. He likes chucks.

First we amassed resources and grabbed the black chucks, a plastic trash bag (for spills), a small bottle of bleach and a handful of Q-tips (for paintbrushing).

And then we HAD AT IT.

For the first few seconds, a dark, bloody red color shows up under the bleach marks. Some minutes later, it gradually starts lightening up, turning brighter red, then dark orange, then lighter orange.

And eventually, you end up with THESE>>> :

AWESOME.

I planted this one big spot on the front of the left shoe to test how it would turn out. Then we decided that it was too much orange in one spot. So I added modifications with a Sharpie.

And THEN, the other side felt unloved and lonely. So I drew an inverted version on the other side.

At the end, we put them under the faucet and gave them a thorough rinsing so that the nice color that resulted wouldn't fade any further.

Oh, man. Black chucks never looked so good.
