Most of them were wearing white togas, but something nagging in the back of my brain tells me it was most certainly ancient Greece. It took place at dusk, like an odd majority of my dreams do. They pointed me northeast and told me to kneel down before this spot on the ground that was reminiscent of a location where many heads had been cradled in before. It was like some bowl-shaped indent in the ground, caked with dark, dried blood, and gradually weathered out over years of repeated use.
So in my dream last night, I was sentenced to be executed somewhere on a dusky, red-ocre plateau overlooking an ancient Greek city to the south (I have an uncannily good sense of direction in most of my dreams, and when I describe them in my journal, I often include many specific details regarding compass directions during the course of them). I remembered the executioner raising the giant axe when I lowered my forehead into the indent. Then I remember the axe coming down.
So I was still kneeling there for a moment musing and trying to now figure out what it felt like to have a severed head, when it slowly dawned on me that my head wasn't severed. I blinked and surreptitiously tilted my head to the side a little to peek past my shoulder and see what the hell had happened. It was almost comical. They prodded me verbally and told me to get up. Then an earthquake started happening. Apparently that was the reason for the cancellation of the execution. This was all actually kind of funny, and despite the somewhat dark theme, I wouldn't call it a nightmare at all.
(A nightmare is when you dream of an abandoned city in the dead of a chilly night, when suddenly a gargantuan, gray-fleshed, humanoid titan of a creature with a blunt head and beady eyes roars through the ruins and begins demolishing the place, and meanwhile, in one swing it causes a barbed-wire clothesline to pin a dying woman to the wall through her mouth and crush her frail body into the wall with this scream of horror frozen on her face that terrifies you so badly that you wake up shivering in bed and afraid to stand up-- GEEXAS, who wants to be talking about this?! I'm a-gonna get myself tasty Hazelnut gelato. The gelaterias should be open by now!)

Now that I recall, I have had a dream of being beheaded... and looking at my body. That was rather interesting, but I quickly woke myself up afterward. I've always been grateful to have that ability, and I've never met anyone else who can do it. Oh, well. Take care!... Especially of your head :)
Maybe a memory from your previous life?
